DRIVE UNITS BY MANUFACTURER:
Fountek FM135D-II
LIMITED STOCK
The Fountek FM135D-II is a 5¼" / 135mm midrange driver featuring an aluminium cone, a rigid diecast basket and a high temperature copper clad aluminium voice coil wound on a 35mm kapton former.
Operates as a pure piston between 120 - 400Hz then the response gently tapers upwards to 5Khz, our recommended upper limit for this unit. As to be expected with a small metal coned drive unit, the FM135D-II has an excellent transient response. The first major cone breakup occurs at around 7Khz, this is easily avoided or notched in the crossover.
Resonant frequency (fs) | 73 Hz | Nominal impedance (Zn) | 8 Ω |
Mechanical Q factor (Qms) | 1.84 | DC resistance (Re) | 6.3 Ω |
Electrical Q factor (Qes) | 0.69 | RMS power handling | 30 W |
Total Q factor (Qts) | 0.28 | Sensitivity (2.83V/1m) | 89dB |
Equivalent volume (Vas) | 6.47L | Chassis diameter (cropped) | 150 mm |
An impressive driver, with outstanding resolution, speed and dynamics for the price. The break up mode at 7kHz is clearly audible (though less horrendous than some other metal drivers) & does require suitable crossover design. Overall: great for the price, but a shame that Fountek has discontinued manufacture.
Thanks for the review Simon. Fountek appear to have a new owner & have discontinued various aluminium coned units which is a shame as some were fantastic.

I've had my Mission 734s for about 30 years and for the last five or so the bass units have been falling to pieces. I was about to take the speakers to the tip, but didn't have the heart knowing how capable these used to be. I did a little internet research and these Monacor replacements appeared to do the job. Next day delivery from Willys was impressive, as was the killer sound once the replacements were fitted (which was a simple job). I'd forgotten how these speakers make the windows rattle. Very happy customer!
Excellent service from Willys-Hifi. Caroline was very helpful and patient when answering my queries. Please be aware that some soldering is required when connecting the tweeters. Something I haven't done since I was at school over 40 years ago! They do sound good though, listening to Smoke on the Water as I write , wow 😆
thx you so much for helping me geting the twiters for my speakers i hope all good for your bisnis in the futur and that it will never close i recemed you to the norwigen hifikluben its a store in norway for parts and hifi so you brobely will get order from ther now thx agine for the parts btw you need to put a bit of fome on the back side of the speakers for it to mount in the b&w cmd1 se to make them fit i will leave som pictur of the istalsjon
I always knew that Linn should never have stopped using Hiquphon tweeters. What I don't know is why it's taken me thirty years to fit a pair in my old Kabers. It's often hard to describe sonic character ....but to pinch Linn's old line from back in the day ...they're Simply Better.(even straight out the box with soldering iron still warm)
As my Kabers are passive,I had been a little concerned that the the 8 ohm nominal impedence of the OW1 would mess with the crossover slope. I needn't have worried....if its shifted the crossover point its much for the better.
Warm thanks also to Will and Caroline for a service in keeping with the outstanding quality of the Hiquphon product.

Been looking for a supplier of replacement drivers for some years.
Willy's HiFi had just the parts at a good price and they arrived in a couple of days.
