Linn Keilidh Tweeter Upgrade

Since 1991, I've had Linn Keilidh speakers, which I upgraded a year later to an active system using the Linn Wakonda and two LK100 power amplifiers. Over the past few years, I’ve considered replacing my audio setup with a more compact active system. However, the downside is that it would require a significant investment to achieve a comparable sound quality.

In the end, I opted for an upgrade of the tweeters and new speaker covers after more than 30 years.
The upgrade itself went smoothly using the supplied solder. I’m very pleased with the end result. The upgrade has had a noticeable impact on the soundstage: the bass, midrange and treble all have more space and clarity within the stereo image. This first became apparent to me when listening to vocals—it’s as if you can perceive the space surrounding the voice. And the longer you listen, the more this spatial detail stands out.
I’ve turned the amplifier up slightly, as creating that sense of space seems to require a bit more power.

It’s an upgrade I can definitely recommend.

I recently installed the Linn Keilidh active Tweeter Upgrade Kits from Willys Hifi. It works great! It took
1 month to get here snd had to pay an additional 90 euros in taxes and customs fees but it was well worth it!

I upgraded my trusty, active Keilidhds with new tweeters and as others said: Transformational! Not only did the high frequencies become much more pleasant but what really surprised me was the increase in defined punch in the low range. The better high-frequency response obviously influences the perception of the boom as well as that of the zing. The result is the best Keilidh I ever heard anywhere. Good electronics (Linn AV5125 in my case), activation and this tweeter really transform it into a Super-Kelidh.

Having managed to blow up the tweeters in my 30 year old Keilidhs I was forced to look at repair options. The upgrade to the OW 1-92 tweeter seemed the obvious solution. I few email exchanges with Willy confirmed the faulty tweeters and the upgrade kit was ordered. The upgrade of the capacitors and tweeters was straight forward and the improvement in sound over the original 015/1 tweeters is immense. Its like I have a new pair of speakers.
