DRIVE UNITS BY MANUFACTURER:
753 XOR
NOW SUPPLIED WITH AN EASY CONNECTION COLOUR CODED LOOM.
PRICED PER PAIR.
The Mission 753 crossover features general purpose polarised electrolytic capacitors wired back to back (in series) as a cost and size cutting exercise.
Featuring point to point wiring and a wealth of hot melt adhesive, the crossover build quality is typical of the era - it is quite tricky to work on for beginners as it is in the form of a split section PCB sandwich connected by brass bus bars.
Our upgrade includes various changes and modifications that take these speakers to a new level of performance - please see the reviews.
How does this work ?

It was a nice experience to send the old filters to the UK (from the Netherlands) and get them surprisingly fast back (taking the overseas shipment into account). At first I did it wrong since I also replaced the drivers that could also be connected in a 4/6 Ohm (double coil). But after correcting and calibrating my receiver the speakers sounded great.
Thanks!
Thanks for the review Stefan !

Wasn't sure what to expect with the process of sending iny old units and waiting for them to be rebuilt. The actual turn around time was quicker than expected. The quality of the work was evident as soon as I opened up the box on the newly rebuilt crossovers. Once I installed them I can say I was pleased with the sound. There seem to be more dynamics with clearer top end, tighter mid range, and little more bottom end as well. Glad I went thru this process and would highly recommend to anyone considering!

Finally got my electricity back today after the storm on Friday. Initially I was a bit apprehensive, as I had no experience in electronics. As I followed the colour coded looms, it got easier and more straightforward. Guess what! My Mission 753s sound better than they ever did in 1998 when I bought them brand new. New crossovers also brought one of my tweeters back to life (was dead for ten years) What a quality upgrade, worth every single penny. Willy and Caroline, you guys are legends.
Thanks for the great review Lamaat - enjoy the 753's !

So I did the tweeters a few months back, and they were a revelation. I debated the crossover upgrade a while- but I decided 'in for a penny' and went for it.
Wow!
I fully agree with the other reviewers here, they pretty much nail it.
The units are very well put together, and ooze quality.
Overall tonal balance is improved, clarity and soundstage (particularly in the mid/upper-mid) is significantly improved, and the 'air' added by the new tweeters is given another boost. But the biggest thing is the bass- there's more of it, it goes deeper, and is superbly tight and controlled.
Dropped my standard test-track (Groove Armada's Suntoucher) and it left me grinning like a small child who's just left his mam a present in his nappy.
So if you're in two minds, I say go for it. I paid a ton for the 753s on Facebook, £400-ish for the tweeters and crossovers- and I don't reckon you could beat them for less than 1500 quid now. The improvement is more than I expected, and I'm now pulling out CDs I haven't listened to in years.
Worth every penny.
I'll sign off with a mention of the superb, personal service from WIll & Caroline. It's not often these day you feel truly valued as a customer, so thank you!!
Thanks for the review Jon, we're glad you like the upgrades !

The newly rebuilt crossovers look fantastic and the wiring was easy to reconnect due to the colour coding. After reconnection I tried everytype of music from Bach, Faithless, Pink Floyd and the Dub Pistols. The sound was brilliant, it seemed to be less muffled. The sound seemed to be crisper and was clear in the mid range and the bass was punchy and clear, giving the sound a more distinctive punch. Overall the upgrade was worth every penny. Can recommend this upgrade to anyone with 753's, it does improve them hand over fist.
Thanks for the review Russell !

I've had my Mission 734s for about 30 years and for the last five or so the bass units have been falling to pieces. I was about to take the speakers to the tip, but didn't have the heart knowing how capable these used to be. I did a little internet research and these Monacor replacements appeared to do the job. Next day delivery from Willys was impressive, as was the killer sound once the replacements were fitted (which was a simple job). I'd forgotten how these speakers make the windows rattle. Very happy customer!
Excellent service from Willys-Hifi. Caroline was very helpful and patient when answering my queries. Please be aware that some soldering is required when connecting the tweeters. Something I haven't done since I was at school over 40 years ago! They do sound good though, listening to Smoke on the Water as I write , wow 😆
thx you so much for helping me geting the twiters for my speakers i hope all good for your bisnis in the futur and that it will never close i recemed you to the norwigen hifikluben its a store in norway for parts and hifi so you brobely will get order from ther now thx agine for the parts btw you need to put a bit of fome on the back side of the speakers for it to mount in the b&w cmd1 se to make them fit i will leave som pictur of the istalsjon
I always knew that Linn should never have stopped using Hiquphon tweeters. What I don't know is why it's taken me thirty years to fit a pair in my old Kabers. It's often hard to describe sonic character ....but to pinch Linn's old line from back in the day ...they're Simply Better.(even straight out the box with soldering iron still warm)
As my Kabers are passive,I had been a little concerned that the the 8 ohm nominal impedence of the OW1 would mess with the crossover slope. I needn't have worried....if its shifted the crossover point its much for the better.
Warm thanks also to Will and Caroline for a service in keeping with the outstanding quality of the Hiquphon product.

Been looking for a supplier of replacement drivers for some years.
Willy's HiFi had just the parts at a good price and they arrived in a couple of days.
