DRIVE UNITS BY MANUFACTURER:
Fountek NeoX1.0-B
Categories: Fountek Drive Units - All Ribbon Tweeters
UK STOCK ITEM !
The Fountek NeoX1.0 features Fountek's third generation ribbon tweeter technology. This design incorporates a larger surface area ribbon mounted in an aperiodic shallow horn resulting in an improved low end response / wider useable range with higher power handling than its predecessors. The 12x45mm ribbon is made from an ultra light (20mg) multilayer aluminium sandwich with a cross section of 0.015mm (approx 0.6 thou). Efficiency is reasonably high at 92dB.
The end tensioning clamps form a substantial heatsink for the low impedance ribbon and an impedance matching transformer is built into the back of the housing .
We recommend a minimum crossover frequency of 2.5kHz / 18db octave.
Frequency range | 1200Hz-40kHz | Nominal impedance (Zn) | 8 Ω |
Ribbon dimensions | 12x45mm | DC resistance (Ribbon) | 0.02 Ω |
Effective area (squared) | 540mm | RMS power handling | 20 W |
Crossover frequency | 2.5kHz/18db | Peak power | 38W |
Sensitivity (2.83V/1m) | 92dB | Faceplate (rectangular) | 98x69.5mm |
This is a nice tweeter! Bright, but not cold sounding - a real sparkle at the top-end which I always appreciate. Note that Willy's spec says that you should use a 3rd order (-18dB)
crossover, whereas Fountek actually specify 2nd order (-12dB) on their website - It doesn't really matter which you use, but I used 2nd order at 3.5k with no issues. Very wide dispersion characteristics make it an enjoyable listen, even well off axis. No idea about reliability yet, but I've been using it for a few months now with no issues - and sounding just as sweet as ever.
Thankyou for your review !

Since 1991, I've had Linn Keilidh speakers, which I upgraded a year later to an active system using the Linn Wakonda and two LK100 power amplifiers. Over the past few years, I’ve considered replacing my audio setup with a more compact active system. However, the downside is that it would require a significant investment to achieve a comparable sound quality.
In the end, I opted for an upgrade of the tweeters and new speaker covers after more than 30 years.
The upgrade itself went smoothly using the supplied solder. I’m very pleased with the end result. The upgrade has had a noticeable impact on the soundstage: the bass, midrange and treble all have more space and clarity within the stereo image. This first became apparent to me when listening to vocals—it’s as if you can perceive the space surrounding the voice. And the longer you listen, the more this spatial detail stands out.
I’ve turned the amplifier up slightly, as creating that sense of space seems to require a bit more power.
It’s an upgrade I can definitely recommend.
Wow, just had my Mission 753 upgrades of crossover and also tweeters. What a difference it’s made! The high frequencies are more refined and OMG, the separation and richness of mud and bass if awesome…..much thanks to Willy’s for giving my 753’s a new life 😀😀
Excellent advice from will as usual and exactly what I wanted. These have improved the sound of my current speakers and taken them to another level. Sounds superb I can hear tonal difference's between things that I never heard before. Superb bass drivers dig so deep.
As usual will has been outstanding.
Brilliant to deal with always helpful and gives great service.
What a brilliant capacitor, from first listen exceptional clarity and depth. Bargain will be buying more.
